From the wildernesscamp it is possible to make splendid walks with a nature guide, ask. The camp is laying in a protected nature area. Also we can organize walks in the mountains of Jämtland if necessary for more than one day.

Not far away it is possible to make a beautiful walk, it starts at KRÅNGEDE. The route is 4 kilometers long and starts at the power station of KRÅNGEDE. Halfway the route you can enjoy a magnificent view  from the pilgrim tower. If you want to make a longer walk, it is possible. Between Sundsvall and Östersund  runs the Indalsleden. The walk leads you through virginal forest and splendid lakes. Also you see so-called "nipor": steep sand formations  from the ice age. On the road you can enjoy fantastic nature with breathtaking views. You see orchids, fungus and you are able to pick a variety of berries. Also worth is the climbing of the Stuguberget in Stugun. At the Döda fallet is a beautiful walk between the canal and the dead water fall. The Forsaleden is a walking route of 7 kilometers and runs through a splendid area. The walk is not too difficult. On the road you encounter rapids and a water fall in the river Forsaån. Here you have the chance to swim just and to dive from a rock.  Thousand year old rock-carvings make the walk complete.

Sättsjon and the Indalsälven

In the nearest surroundings you can fish on the lake Sättsjön. Here exist especially a lot of pike and zander. In the smaller lakes are also trout. With a small boat with outboard motor it is also possible to "troll" on the Indalsälven. Trolling  is dragging fishing. You can rent a boat even with a guide. He knows all the good fishing places. The Indalsälven is a river of approximately 150 kilometres length. Sometimes the river flows faster and then slower, but always through a splendid nature. The width varies of 100 up to 3000 meters. There are 14 barrages, but that is no point for a fisherman. It is necessary to keep the  fishing stock in a good condition. That is why there are a lot of fish farms along the river. Whitefish can be found a lot in the Indalsälven. Perch and pike are there also in large numbers. To catch pike it is the best that you use red and yellow blinkers. The pikes have generally a weight of 5-8 kilogram. There is also enough trout  in large numbers. The trout  from the natural habitat do not have a fat fin, the trout that is put out do not have that. You can catch the trout with the fly but you have but you have more chance with a blinker (spoon). Also maggots have proved their value.

Ammerån

Not far away you find the river Ammerån,  an untamed river which flows through  a wild landscape. There are a lot of rapids and cascades, but also calmer pieces with deeper water. There is almost no clearer water than here. Here is the best spot for fly-fishing on grayling or flag salmon and salmon trout. The grayling exist for a long time in the Swedish rivers, even as its nephews, the salmon and the trout and offer the fly fisherman an excellent sport, the whole year round. Trout is a beautiful fish , but the grayling is wonderful. Fishing on grayling is almost the same such as fishing on trout, and if you fish on both, you catch perhaps both of them. He (the grayling) bites very easy, but also easy you can loose the fish. The grayling have a very soft mouth. The flag salmon (grayling) can be caught especially well in the late summer and autumn. In the middle of day you have the best possibility to catch a grayling, because the flag salmon is then most active. Ammerån is a so-called forest river is and contains also a good quantity forest trout.

Långan and Hårkan

The rivers Långan and Hårkan have both their sources in the mountains between Norway and Jämtland. In the last dozens of kilometres, before the rivers reach the Indalsälven, different wild rapids arise. Behind the rapids are quiet parts of the river whit a good fishing possibility.  Here is a good frequently of grayling and salmon trout.

Put and take
In Hammarstrand is a fishpond where you can fish for trout.

Canoeing is to go out and become one with nature. It is an experience to glide quietly on the water and enjoy the delicious nature. You can rent canoes here. In the nearby surroundings you can canoeing on a lake for example the lake Sättsjön or on the river Indalsälven. If you want an excursion for more than one day, it is possible. We can bring you to the river Hårkan. You will start at the place Hotagen or Föllinge and canoe to the place Lit. (estuary  in the Indalsälven)

Near Hammarstrand you find the offroadsafari. With a "Volvo valp" all-terrain vehicle you can make three different tracks in the forest, from easy to difficult. Of course is this all under
accompaniment. It is possibly that you must by water or steep uphill the mountain. The Volvo valp is prepared for that. It is a fantastic experience and it is an beautiful activity for the whole day. Also it is possible to drive "blindly". Your guide next to you leads you through the track. With a bandage for your eyes you see nothing. You can combine the offroadsafari with "Zorb" , see below.

Test your driving ability around Selsbodarna on a quad. It is a challenge to drive on a quad, you can encounter  all kinds of obstacles such as steep hillocks, tight turnings or watercourses. Children or adults who do not want to drive by themselves are able to drive as a passenger at the back. The quad is a four wheeled motorcycle with thick profile tyres. For navigating a quad you need no drivers license. However, it is necessary that you have a minimum age of 16 years and a minimum length of 1 meter 60. Also are you obliged to carry a helmet during the quad drive.

Zorbing have been invented in 2000, by the new-Sealanders Dwane van der Sluis  and Andrew Akers as an alternative for other leisure activities for example bungee-jumping. The zorbonaut get fixed to the inside of the zorb. Since the opening of the first commercial zorbingtrack not far outside Rotorua in New Zealand, zorbing rapidly have become very popular in other parts of the world  in the United Kingdom, Poland, Argentina and Austria and now also it is possible to zorb. The zorb exist from a large outside ball and a smaller insideball which has been linked to each other with cables. The outside ball has a diameter of three meters, whereas the insideball measure is less than two meters. Both balls have been made of transparent PVC (The transparency decreases after some years). To enter the zorb there is a hole of 70 cm with a zipper. To enter it the zorb is rolled over so that the opening on the side. With a run-up the zorbonaut jumps in the zorb. After the downhill, the guide opens the zipper and the zorbonaut is rolling out automatically from the zorb. The average length of the zorbingtrack is about 200 meters with a slope of approximately 30°. After a couple steps (such as a hamster in a hamstercage) the zorb rolls from the platform and the gravitation does the rest. The maximum speed lies around 50 the á 60 km/u.

Not far away, 2 kilometres outside KRÅNGEDE, there is a splendid bathing resort on a beach, it  is called: Öratjärns badplats. It is a natural lake with a 12 meters long landing. Also there a space where you can change your clothes and a shower. A grill and a spot to beach volley are also present.

More to the south  lies a splendid badplats: Övsjö. It has a long natural beach with landing, place where you can change your clothes and toilets. The water is crystal clear with a good temperature. If you are here you can visit also the old "bo-stugan" : an old fäbod.

If you want to visit a real swimming pool that is also possible. In Östersund is the splendid Storsjöbadet water park. You can swim in- and outside. Enjoy the adventure bath and the waterslides. To sunbath there are large green meadows and playing grounds.

back

In the neighborhood beavers have build their lodges and dams. It is possible that we show you this on a beautiful summer evening. The beavers get active when the twilight falls. Beavers are – after de South American  capybara – the greatest rodents in the world and they are recognized to their dark brown fur, short paws en flat tail. The beaver is built rather clumsy, is about 1 meter long ( exclusive  the tail from 30 cm) and have a weight of 30 kg.  They can Dive and swim very good. Their rear feet have five toes with between webs. The second rear feet have a smaller double nail and is used for cleaning the fur. Their horizontal flat, scaly tail have a width of 12 till 15 cm and is used for making alarm signals ( hit on the water), to steer when they swim and when they bricklay a lodge. The beaver have 20 teeth and molars with roots. The incisors are looking as a chisel and have a red orange glaze outside. Their brains are extraordinary good educated in comparison with other rodents. In Sweden live approximately 100000 beavers.

back

In Stugun is a magnificent rock: Stuguberget. It is a challenge for those who love it. You see the river Indalsälven, slowly streaming, at least if you dare to look. The area is easily reachable, as a matter of fact it is also possible to make a beautiful walk. The mount has an impressing abyss and you can climb here 80 meters high. There are several difficulties. You enjoy a magnificent view when you are above.

back

You have the possibility to make a snowmobile trip. We made special snowmobile trails. They leads trough a mysterious winter landscape. You come along lakes and small streams. There is also the possibility of combining this with ice fishing. You make the excursion under accompaniment of an expert. This is a special way to make knowledge of the magnificent  landscape of this part of Sweden.

If you want to fish on ice you have to drill a gate in the ice with a special icedrill. You have to do that with the hand but it is also possible with a motorized icedriller. Afterwards you can sit beside the gate on the ice. The special fishing rod looks complete different than an ordinary fishing rod, it is much smaller. You put a maggot on the hook and then it starts. Take care that the hook first touches the bottom  and then you have to put the hook a half meter higher. Then the waiting starts. With the sun on your face is that no problem. You have more chance to catch a fish when you joggle the rod,  What is more beautiful  to go with a number of fish in the direction of the wildernesscamp and take a sauna or in the hot tub to jump!

back

On the island Frösön at Östersund you find a beautiful ski slope. These are suitable for adults and children. When you stand on the top of the Gustavsbergsbacken you have Östersund to your feet and you can see how beautiful that place lies to the banks of the lake Storsjön. Here are snowboarders but also skiers and of course you can take lessons. Closer to the wildernesscamp you can ski in Hammarstrand on the Kullstabacken with a longest descent of 1200 meters and on the Jannebacken in Stugun with a descent of 400 meters.

back

In the neighborhood are several tracks. You find them for example in Bispgården: Östervågs. The tracks here have a length of 2.5, 6.0, and 15 km, there are locker rooms and you can also take a shower. At Hammarstrand close to the Kullstaberget you can cross-country with tracks of 3.5 up to 12 km length. One of the tracks runs along the Kullsta fäbodar. Finally you find tracks of 1, 2.5, 5 and 15 km length, also prepared, in Stugun. Cross country running is a sport in which teams of runners compete to complete a course over open or rough terrain faster than other teams. The courses used at these events may include grass, mud, woodlands, and water. It is a popular participatory sport, and usually takes place in temperate regions during the autumn and winter when soft conditions underfoot prevail.

back

On the big lake Storsjö in Östersund, lies a number of prepared skatingcourts waiting for the skaters. While there is no ice for years in the Netherlands, you can skate here whenever you want in the winter. And not only you can skate there. Also sleigh ride, cross-country or walking on the Storsjö is possible. In the winter it is very cosy, they call it Vinterstaden  (winter city).

back

In Hammarstrand  lies a nature toboggan run. A toboggan is a simple sled used on snow, to carry one or more people (often children) down a hill or other slope, for recreation. Designs vary from simple, traditional models to modern engineered composites. A toboggan differs from most sleds or sleighs in that it has no runners or skis on the underside. The bottom of a toboggan rides directly on the snow.
